GCSE Media Homework - The News

GCSE Media Homework - The News

Task 1:

News values are points which make a story newsworthy, some examples are conflict, scandal and prominence. For example, a story which is more shocking and unusual would be more newsworthy than one that is seen many times and would not interest the reader. An example of prominence is that a death of a celebrity or well known figure would be more newsworthy than the death of someone known to few people.

We can access news through papers, magazines, websites and television. Most newspapers have websites that you can access news from now, as this format is more popular and accessible to anyone that owns a mobile phone. News is also accessible on many forms of social media, this format is free and easily accessed, many people use this.

Task 2:

The Sun newspaper has a conventional layout which includes a red masthead, main headline in black and white and a large main image, coupons are also used in the top, right corner of the front page. Their main story headline takes up much space on the front cover, which is appropriate for their less educated target audience.

Task 3:

A news agency is a company which sells news stories, often in the form of a newspaper. The news agency publishes stories from a journalist and prints them to sell across the country, or in some cases, across the world. A news agency’s job is to share news for many people to access.

Task 4:

I agree that some may see it as being biased, however, in my opinion, I do not think this is biased and I believe the way the newspaper has portrayed Corbyn in a bad way has led people to believe they are biased. I believe the newspaper has made it seem as if they are against Corbyn, however this could be reversed and be against right winged politics also. It is common for newspapers to present political figures badly, it does not mean they are biased.

Task 5:

Social media has had a big impact on the way news is gathered and reported, you can read stories from many different reporters, and different perspectives. News is mostly read online now, easily accessed through websites and social media such as Facebook or twitter. News on social media is also free, which will attract more readers, it can be shared and reach a wider audience, it can also be accessed from anywhere, no matter what country or town you live in.
